Is There a Price to Pay?

Brugge, Belgium

Bruges, Belgium, 2007, during my one-year trip to Europe.

Many people think that if they want something, there is a price to pay. They feel there is some sort of “balance” that is due. For every amount of good, there must be an equal amount of bad.

It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way

You can live your life this way, but what if not only was there no price to pay, but you got rewarded for getting what you want? Can you eat what you want and lose weight? Can you spend what you want and earn money? Can you buy that thing you want and make your life better? Can you do what you want and end up better off? Notice how you feel when I write those things. What does the way you feel say about those beliefs?

A Personal Example

Years ago, despite starting to succeed in my company, I was depressed. I felt I needed a major life change. I sold my house and decided to spend a year in Europe, which is where I took the picture above. Not only did I enjoy myself, but I also ended up spending less money than staying in the States.

I met people who helped me dramatically increase my business, making us more successful. And during that year, the housing market declined. So it turned out that we sold our house at the peak time, and when we returned, we were able to buy a house for less.

Joe Rogan and Chris Stapleton Agree

I was just watching a Joe Rogan episode in which he was interviewing the new country legend Chris Stapleton. Both admitted that they felt their success was due to doing what they enjoy. If you do what you enjoy, regardless of whether you succeed or fail, you’ll be happy, by definition. Plus, if you insist upon paying a price, then you’ll just be left with paying a price.

Why Do You Insist That You Must Suffer? Why Do You Insist on a Price To Pay?

That is a question that I want you to genuinely ask yourself if you believe it. When you insist on paying a price, you are just frustrating yourself. If you want something and you cannot have it at the time, either there is another way that you’re not considering, or there is something even better about the situation that you are in. You can have your cake and eat it too. Practice seeing how. Look for examples of how this is true for others.
