How to Tune Your Mind

Here is a method to tune your mind so that you can quickly be who you want to be and feel what you want to feel.

Get a Piece of Paper

It’s important to write this down. Use a piece of paper, a journal, or the notes app on your phone.

Step 1: Decide Who You Want to Be

Who do you want to be? Do you want to be confident? Do you want to be happy? Do you want to be rich? Do you want to be skinny? Simply take out a sheet of paper or use the notes app on your phone and write down who you want to be. “I am a rich person.”

One word of caution: make sure you word your definition in the positive. If you are sick, don’t say, “I don’t want to be sick.” You might be tempted to say “I am healthy,” but this is just a clever word version of the former. Instead, say something like “I enjoy my life,” or “I can do the things that I want to do.”

I am a rich person

Step 2: Imagine

Now, focus and imagine that you are the person that you want to be. Make a list of how you would feel. Pay attention to anything you see yourself doing.

As you focus, you will see yourself doing things. What are they? How would this person, the person you want to be, interpret the world?. The more you focus on the emotions, the more you will see the actions that they would take that you could take. In particular, imagine what that person would do if they were in your shoes, living your life, facing the challenges that you face..

If you find this doesn’t come easily, imagine someone that you know, or a role model, and imagine what advice you would give to them. What woulda role model do and how would they feel?

  • Happy

  • Calm

  • Intentional

  • Being clear with what I want

  • Quality

  • Dressing well

  • Clean

  • Organized

  • No social media

  • Read

  • Study

  • Confident

  • Brainstorming ideas

  • Investing

Step 3: Take Action

To make it real, you have to take those actions. Be that person. The more you see yourself doing those things, the more you will become that person. If you find that you’re not taking action, then ask yourself why.

Maybe it seems too hard to do those things? Maybe you fear the reaction of others? Whatever your reason, use it to revise your decision of who you are. “I am a rich person to whom things come easily.” Then repeat the process.
