The Wall: A Way To Get What You Want
There are many ways to get what you want. This is an approach that I, along with others, have found very useful. The first time I used it, I achieved something I really wanted: not only did I get what I wanted, but I also lowered my expenses, made my home more comfortable, and significantly increased its value — all without spending a dime. As strange as it may sound, what I wanted was radiant heat.
I am a fan of the TV Show This Old House, possibly the inventor of the DIY and home renovation movement. I got to tour one of their completed homes in Carlisle, Massachusetts. They had renovated a farmhouse and barn for their 25th anniversary. The house felt so comfortable that just being in it was a pleasure. There was something unique about the energy.
The tour guide explained that that was the radiant heat. Basically, the floor has pipes running through it, and it is gently heated. It is not like a traditional heating system with forced air or radiators. Instead, the floor itself heats the home.
Have you ever experienced the perfect day outside? That’s what radiant heat feels like, because that’s how the Earth is heated. The sun heats the ground, and that heat is radiated back at us. It’s gently warm and just unexplainably comfortable. It’s quiet. It’s reliable.
The Procedure
When I first heard about the procedure I am about to share to get what you want, I chose radiant heat because it’s something so unusual that it was not something I would receive by chance.
The Basic Idea
The basic idea is that when we want things, there is a wall of beliefs between us and what we want. This encompasses my levels: psychological, spiritual, and physical. To achieve what we want, we break down negative beliefs and build new, positive ones. Then we have what we want. It only takes about 15 minutes a day.
Step 1. Write Down What You Want Daily
Every day, take out a sheet of paper or use the notes app on your phone. Write down what you want.
Step 2. Build Desire
Then make a list of all the reasons why you want it. This builds your desire.
Step 3. List your Positive Beliefs
Make a list of your positive beliefs. Make a list of all the reasons and beliefs that support you getting what you want.
My Example: Radiant Heat
In the case of radiant heating, my desires included things like:
I love the technology
I love being a role model to others, being environmentally friendly, being more comfortable, having lower maintenance, saving money, and having it all.
It’s just cool
I would be more comfortable.
The kids would be happier.
Initially, my beliefs were limited, but as time passed, that list expanded. In the end, my list looked like this:
It would lower my energy bills
It’s good for the environment
I would be happier
It’s lower maintenance.
It would increase the value of the home
It exists
It’s possible
My floors have space underneath, so that installation would be easier
Many contractors in my area understand the technology
It’s well tested
My Results
After a few months of doing this, I was on the verge of giving up. One day, I had an idea. “Maybe there are government loans or something?. It is environmentally friendly after all.” And so I looked and indeed there was.
In my case, the state offered a 0% down payment loan for the installation and equipment of high-efficiency systems. I was able to hire a contractor, and a few months later, the installation was completed.
While I did have a loan, my overall energy usage dropped by about 7%%. Which, in my case, saved me about $250 to $500/month in gas. My loan payments were about $250/month. I saved so much money on gas that the system paid for itself.
So with no money in my pocket, I had a system instead. Additionally, when I sold my home, it facilitated a faster sale because it demonstrated that the property was a high-quality and well-maintained home. It sold for approximately $50,000 more.
I was pleased with the results, and this method is one of the many tools I have come to rely on in achieving what I want.
