Predicting the Future

Something I often see in TV shows and movies, or hear people talking about, is what the future will be like. Perhaps it’s a character being told their future, like Cersei being told about her future in Game of Thrones. Maybe it’s someone saying that they think something is going to happen in the future. Maybe they had a dream. When what they predict or were told would happen does happen, and then they say that the prediction was correct. So the question is, can you escape the future? Do you have a destiny?

Maybe you fear something bad happening, like AI taking over. If you know something bad might happen, will it? Is there anything that you can do?

First, understand that ultimately, regardless of what happens, the question is somewhat irrelevant, because it’s not the actual thing that is or isn’t going to happen, but your life experience. You want to have an enjoyable life experience. Expecting a bad outcome means that you fear that you will feel poorly and that it is out of your control. But the thing is, all feelings come from beliefs.

“It’s not what happens that determines your experience, it is how you feel about what happens, and that is the result of your beliefs, which are 100% under your control.”

You Don’t Predict the Future, You Create it

There really is no such thing as the future. It is always right here and right now. When a person thinks about the future, that is not the actual future; that is a possible future. That is a key distinction, and it’s important to understand that distinction. It’s an imagined future.

If something that you imagine or predict comes true, it’s not that you predicted it; it’s that you created it. When people have visions or expectations of the future, they are not seeing the future; they are creating it. In other words, if you don’t like what you think will happen in the future, you can change it.

Here is how.

  1. Pay attention to what feelings you have about the future. How do you feel about the future that you are imagining or predicting?

  2. Ask yourself what you must believe to be feeling that way. What beliefs must you have to think and feel that way?

  3. Choose new preferred beliefs.

  4. Imagine how a person with those beliefs would act in your shoes.

  5. Act that way. Action makes it real.

It’s important to note that thinking something and feeling something doesn’t make it true. It’s the actions that you take. Are you acting like a person who believes that the future will come true? Then you will get those results, or some emotional equivalent. Act like you expect a positive future.
