Be Responsible

This is part of my series on how we can be better than Switzerland. I think a key way is when everyone takes full responsibility for their lives. And that starts with me. We want the world “out there” to get better all by itself. Well, to others, we are part of that world, and we can make the world better by making our own lives better. Rather than blaming others, we have to do what we can in our own lives.

Be the change you want the world to be.

This Starts With Me

It’s easy to blame others for the world being messed up, but I can’t change others. I can change myself, and I make my world better for others. Rather than focusing on what others need to be doing, I can focus on what I can do. This doesn’t have to be starting a charity, although that’s a possibility. It’s about getting my own life in order. As Jesus says, “getting the board out of my own eye, before taking the speck out of someone else. “

I can focus on finding my own happiness. I can focus on keeping my home clean. I can focus on picking up the trash of others. I can fix up my home rather than blame the landlord or previous owners. I can stop blaming my circumstances and instead focus on what I can do. I can focus on how I can improve. I can learn. I do a better job at everything I do. I can raise my standards. I can be generous. I can train my dogs. I can clean my car. I can be a better parent and partner. I can be more tolerant of others. I will make my home and its exterior more beautiful.

I will look in the mirror first, and always.
